Marketing Persona's

What is a User Persona?

A persona is a fictional, yet realistic, description of a typical or target user of the product. A persona is an archetype instead of an actual living human, but personas should be described as if they were real people. –Aurora Harley

Understanding your audience is fundamental when it comes to creating content that will generate a reaction. Learning their motivations and requirements helps in building user-centric products.
You might think it's as simple as to just know what the user needs (wishful thinking), but unfortunately it's not and it's important to make sure to conduct thorough user research to reap the full benefit.
As business owners or marketers, we must take the time to figure out what our audience wants to hear, not just what we want to say.

So, what exactly is a Persona you ask?
Simply put - it's fictional characters created to represented different aspects of your users such as their needs, goals and behaviours that might use your site. It helps conceptualise what that person would want/need in real life.

These days digital marketing has sky rocketed and it can be quite difficult not to get lost in between everything and everyone else online. So how do you make yourself stand out and increase your exposure?
If you can personalise your message and create a better user experience then you can improve on the rate of conversion simply by being able to communicate effectively and deliver relevant information at the most opportune time.

Wondering where to start?
Gather information from CRM if your business uses one, Google Analytics is a great resource, social media insights and surveys.

It's important to be able to create them out of actual, relevant data so that it can be of most benefit to you.
It can be a teething process and might seem tempting to skip in the strategy process, however, personas are a foundational and strategic tool in making decisions that will affect your growth and brand.

S.O.S.T.A.C Marketing Model

This is a model that offers you and the client a logical order for tackling your plan and allows you to critically assess the process. It is a very popular tool to a lot of marketeers and was created by PR Smith. Michelle's report in Jellies and Jaffas was very interesting to read, although I will admit it was a little frustrating to get to the end for her to say she thinks the model will not work for this type of business. Maybe this should have been disclosed in the beginning, however, it is a great example of how you can implement each section of the model and create a very detailed roadmap for the business. The SOSTAC methodology creates the perfect outline for a marketing plan. Michelle clearly details where Jellies and Jaffas efforts are best placed, she clearly defined their market positioning and highlighted what would need to be done to stand out from competitors. She also highlighted the importance of monitoring their online performance so that it a...

Inbound VS Outbound Marketing

Marketing has changed quite a bit over the last few years and there has been a shift towards a more focused campaign with inbound marketing, stepping away from what would be known as the traditional way with outbound marketing. This is mainly due to how technology has changed the way people obtain information and has forced marketing to undergo a massive transformation. We have entered an age of inbound marketing that is driven by the internet and social media passing out the likes of television and radio advertising. We will discuss the differences below; Outbound could be anything from cold calls, door-to-door sales, trade shows - a more hands on approach where as inbound is strategy whereby you create content to share via a website, social media platforms etc, to help build brand awareness. Both have their pro's and con's, these days you can easily skip TV adverts and the majority of people now have access to the news from the internet, so less and less people see pri...
